Nova Scotia Part III

There's been a lot happening lately!  I ordered and received my flash, I did my first official photo shoot for work and I finished editing all of the pictures that I'm going to post on my blog from my Nova Scotia trip!

I love my flash, it makes a world of difference.  My husband tells me that's my last toy for my camera that I'm allowed to order for a while.  LOL!  It is quite an expensive hobby, I will admit.  I don't really need anything more for now anyway, so I'm okay with not ordering accessories for a while.  :)

My first photo shoot for work went well.  It was a report launch for CCPA (Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives of Manitoba) called You Know You're Not Alone, Community Development in Public Housing.  It was a lot of fun, I got to meet some really incredible people and I got some good pictures.  I can't post them on my blog but there will be some posted on another blog from the CCPA and The Family Centre of Winnipeg's website.  I'll keep you posted!

Here are the last few pictures from the Nova Scotia trip!  I hope you enjoy.

Nova Scotia Part II

It's a rainy weekend which is perfect for editing pictures!  I'm a little over half done with all of the Nova Scotia pictures.  I haven't taken many pictures lately, I'm trying not to because I have so many in my editing queue!  It will be so great to get caught up and get out shooting again.  After all Summer is coming up and we will be outside a lot!

I've received a few new toys for my camera since the last post.  One being a cool polarized filter for my 58mm lens.  Pictures to follow at a later date.  I got a new camera bag too!  My camera and equipment has outgrown my smaller bag.  I got a Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW and I love it!  So much room for my camera, lenses and toys.  My next purchase will be the flash I've been talking about and I can't wait for that!  Then I will be good for a while...hehe.  It's an expensive little hobby.

A couple weeks ago I did a few group pictures for a class that was wrapping up at work and they loved my work so much that I am now the Official Photographer of were I work.  I get to go to a big government program report launch to shoot at the beginning of April which I am really excited about.  I'm also super nervous!  No pressure.  LOL.

Here is part deux of the Nova Scotia trip.  There will be a part three for sure and maybe even a part 4 and then I should be done.  Enjoy!

Nova Scotia Part I

The trip to Nova Scotia was amazing!  The weather wasn't awesome though so I didn't get as many pictures as I thought I would but I got quite a few despite the rain and snow.  Next time I go back it will be in the Summer or Fall!  :)

My latest enemy has been editing!  I love taking pictures but am not a fan of editing.  It has its perks and I like the end results after I edit but it's so time consuming.  I have so many pictures from the trip that I would like to sit down and edit.  Then I just keep taking more and more pictures, adding to my editing queue.  Even as I sit writing this, I'm thinking, I should be editing some more damn pictures!  Oh well, I will get into an editing mood one of these days and hammer through them all for you!  For now here are a few from the first couple days of the trip.  Hope you enjoy.

Just a Few...

I haven't had much time to shoot lately...despite my efforts!  People have been pointing out my cease/seize grammatical error from the last post, LOL.  I did it on purpose to be funny but I guess that didn't work!  LOL!!

Since I've last posted I received hoods for my lenses and one UV filter.  I'm still waiting on some more little toys.  I went out today to try out the UV filter but only got one okay shot that I will share with you.  The UV filter created bad sunspots so I will have to keep playing around with that until I can figure it out.  I'm enjoying the hoods I've received.  People online were saying the hoods are pretty useless for the basic lenses you get with the T2i but I ordered them anyway from eBay.  How could I pass up getting them cheap from Hong Kong, free shipping?  I thought, if they are useless then why are they being sold?  For now all I have is the built in pop-up flash on my camera which creates harsh shadows and it's a straight on blast of light which I don't like.  When I add the hoods to my camera, the shadows are lessened making the shots less overexposed looking.  So, if someone tries to tell you hoods are useless, don't listen.  Ideally what I want is the 320EX flash...but that will have to wait for a bit.

This coming week I will be flying to Nova Scotia with my daughter.  I'm planning on taking as many pictures as my memory cards will hold!  I will have the time, finally and it will be great!  I will Carpe the Diem!!  ;)

Who Has The Time?

I've been meaning to post pictures for two weeks already!!  If it's not one thing it's the other.  I keep saying, "I'll do it tomorrow..."  And now, two weeks have gone by.  How does this happen?  I keep getting these forwarded e-mails from people with the "carpe diem" vibe and I think...I have to cease the day!  Just do it, as Nike would say.  But, who has the time??  When did our lives get so busy?

Sometimes I sit and think of what it would have been like before technology.  To live off of the land.  Actually spend time with the family, day in and day out, not just for fleeting moments.  As much as I love technology and think it's done wonders for the human race (what is it we're racing for?) I also think it's ruined us.  We're stressed, high strung, OCD, ADD, ADHD, anxious, etc, etc.  I find myself panicking if I can't find my phone...my heart actually starts racing, like OMG what if I can't post something on Facebook, Tweet, play Scrabble, Words with Friends, take a picture like right now???  Seriously I feel like smacking myself!  It's ridiculous.  I do have to say, I still read books and am able to sit in silence without having my skin crawl.  That makes me feel like I still have a grip, that I'm not too far gone.  LOL!

I'm glad I grew-up without all of this technology.  I actually played outside, had to call a friend from a "land line" or just walk over to their house (alone, in the dark) to go talk to them.  We would have family game night where we played actual board games.  All things I want to pass on to my child(ren).  Times have changed but our morals and values don't have to.

If I can't cease the day, I will at least cease the moment.  Stop and smell the flowers, enjoy the sunrise/sunset, cuddle with Kaelynne, call my parents (just because).  Maybe even have "no cell phone time"...just the thought of that and my heart's racing...LOL.  To answer my own question, who has the time?  We all do, we just have to take it!
